By: Michael Connelly The SXSW 2017 artist line-up was recently released. For those of you who have not heard of SXSW we have you covered! South by Southwest is an arts and film festival. The festival has slowly grown and blown up into something way more than just a simple film festival. SXSW has become instrumental (no pun intended), in terms of promoting many young budding artists but, has also garnered the attention of some top tier performers looking for exposure. The Strokes, Kanye West, Sia, and Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys are all veterans of the event. The Festival will take place in March 10-19, 2017 in Austin, TX
With that said SXSW is about the performers who have not hit the mainstream. This is a way for them to break into the industry by preforming to their highest ability for a chance at being played on the radio waves. Some performers to look for are Anna Wise, Knox Hamiltion, GGOOLLDD, and Sundara Karma. Anna wise has collaborated with Kendrick Lamar several times earning herself a Grammy for “These Walls.” Wise recently released “Coconuts” which brings the listener to an ephemeral sound that sounds like jazz but, feels like alternative. Knox Hamilton is a band reminiscent of bands like T.V On The Radio and Coin. What sets Knox Hamiltion apart from other indie-arena rock bands it their fuller sound. Their instrumental sound is more refined than most in their genre. GGOOLLDD bridges the alternative with EDM with a hint pop. With that said their sound is ineffable and unlike anything any other artist is doing. There is something about their tunes that just makes you tap your feet and want to dance like indie kids do. I highly suggest you listen to GGOOLLDD’s “Under Covers” as a teaser for your ears. Sundara Karma is an alternative rock group mixed with heavy rifts and loud music that you just want to set the volume to max to drown out the world around you. Sunadara Karma has a loud presence that cannot be ignored. They are currently on tour with Two-Door Cinema Club. There are so many artists at this event as it is nine days. To learn more about the artists mentioned above and not mentioned click here. If you would like to help out with the event many of the artists have their fans market for them during the event. SXSW is all about the future big dogs in music. Be sure to keep it tuned here for more SXSW updates!
