It’s no question that Metallica’s Lars Ulrich is royalty where drumming is concerned. But Lars, a native of Denmark, was officially dubbed an actual knight by Frederik, the Danish crown price.
Lars received the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Dannebrog. The Knight’s Cross is awarded to a Danish citizen for military service, a contribution to the arts, sciences, or business life, or to one who strives to work for Danish interests.
The drummer received the award on behalf of Queen Margrethe for his contribution to music on May 26. The ceremony reportedly took place during Frederik’s trip to San Francisco.
Lars’ bandmates wondered in an Instagram post, “Does this really mean we must address him as Sir Lars now?”
They congratulated the drummer saying, “Not bad for a snot-nosed kid from Gentofte!”
Congrats to Sir Lars on his knighthood! Right when we thought he couldn’t get any cooler…
