This past Tuesday In This Moment invaded the Worcester Palladium as part of their Black Widow Tour alongside Upon A Burning Body, Butcher Babies, and The Nearly Deads. The tour was the second leg in support of In This Moment's 2014 album Black Widow. Front-woman Maria Brink commented, “Black Widow is a metaphor for this innocent young girl who gets infected with life, traumas, experiences, and the balance of light and darkness... She becomes this poised and powerful creature. That’s the album.”
Embracing their anonymity Nashville rockers, The Nearly Deads took the stage with ferocity getting the crowd hyped for a night of hard-hitting rock and roll. The Butcher Babies led by front-duo Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey showcased powerhouse tunes like "Magnolia Blvd." and "Monster's Ball". Shortly after, Upon A Burning Body was tasked with getting the crowd properly prepared for In This Moment. Fans got a taste of what to expect when Pantera's "Cowboys From Hell" blared through the PA, signaling the entrance of the Texan rockers. UABB rode high into the Palladium kicking their set off with "Pledge Your Allegiance" followed up 45 minutes of moshpit-pilates. As their last tune of the night, the Sumerian rockers led the crowd through their Punk Goes Pop cover of "Turn Down For What" featuring Body Counts' Ice T.
After a powerful set by UABB, a Black Widow curtain was hoisted by security to hide the stage. After a brief set up, the sounds of "Sick Like Me" filled the Palladium. Fans immediately responded with a sea of crowd surfing and circle pits. The ten song set by In This Moment led was heavy on their 2012 album Blood and current Black Widow. Fans in attendance were treated to mosh anthems like "Adrenalize", "Big Bad Wolf", and "Blood". As per typical ITM set, front-woman Maria Brink slowed things down for some vocal balladry on crowd favorite, "Burn". All in all, The Black Widow Tour delivered a smash mouth line-up and night of hard-hitting tunage which fans won't be forgetting anytime soon.

Over this past weekend legendary metal act Black Label Society stormed the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom as part of their Spring 2014 'Unblackened Tour'. The packed house of more than 3,000 charged fans were treated to a rare acoustic set led by frontman and guitar master, Zakk Wylde. The Unblackened Tour brings the band's 2013 live CD/DVD Unblackened to life, which was recorded at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, CA. Unblackened transforms hard-hitting Black Label favorites giving them a more acoustic nature, and is perhaps the only time you will see the band in such an intimate light. Frontman Zakk Wylde commented, "I always wanted to take Unblackened on the road, we just didn’t have the time until now. You can take a song that you’ve played thousands of times and rearrange it, and all of a sudden it’s something totally fresh. The attitude of the songs doesn’t change when we play them acoustically–the tunes are gritty regardless.”
Keeping pace with the Unblackened theme, special guest and pioneering doom-rocker Scott "Wino" Weinrich opened the night with his own acoustic set. Wino, like Wylde, is no acqueteience to the act of shredding and set the tone for a night filled with powerful acoustic axe-manship. Despite being armed with acoustic guitars, Label took the stage with power and ferocity. The band delivered unique performances of Pride & Glory favorites like "Losin' Your Mind" and "Machine Gun Man" as well as Zakk Wylde ballads like "Road Back Home" and "Throwin' It All Away". Fans got more than they expected when they were treated to rare renditions of BLS favorites like "Overlord", "The Blessed Hellride", and "Stillborn" as they had never heard before, including an emotional tribute to fallen guitar icon Dimebag Darrel during "In This River". Wylde, a guitar innovator and virtuoso, unleashed a night of blistering guitar solos, intimate vocals, and piano balladry which fans in attendance will surely not be forgetting anytime soon.
