The Avenged train is a rollin' folks and it's not stopping any time soon. If you didn't already think the band was busy enough or didn't have so much coming out at once, well think again because the band just dropped their cover AND video (I know right?!) of Pink Floyd's penultimate track, "Wish You Were Here."
The video, which you can watch down below, is set in a black and white tone enveloping a montage of their recent travels from their last tour. This comes after the video begins with Synyster Gates jamming away in the studio, and it's oh so beautiful.
It's clear in the video and the music that there is a clear reverence for Pink Floyd and that they were a strong influence for the band as this cover matches perfectly with their unique metal style. The band seems to meld the original track with their own flavor that they're known so well for today.
Mr. M. Shadows spoke on the reasoning behind the cover saying, “This is the song that started us down the rabbit hole with our recent cover recordings. I’ve always loved this song and though I felt it would be impossible to capture the somberness of the original, we approached it with another purpose. There’s a poignancy to the song that seems appropriate with everything going on in the world today. We put a bit of a modern twist on it to reintroduce it at a time when it might help capture what some of us are feeling.”
These recent releases of covers that have been releasing is part of the plan that Shadows spoke to Billboard about recently saying, "We love the idea of putting out music in a non-conventional way." That being said, the final evolution of The Stage will be released December 15th later this year in a deluxe format. The album will include their recent covers such as "Malagueña Salerosa," and of course "Wish You Were Here," to name some out of the few, as well as live recordings from their show at London's O2 Arena.
Stay tuned here for more A7X updates and news! We're very sure there will be more to come soon.
