Ah yes the ‘90s, what a time for music. From Nirvana to 2Pac to the Beastie Boys, sounds were blending like the world had never heard before. And on November 19, 1994 two rock legends would unite for one night and one night only.
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers were set to appear as the musical guests on Saturday Night Live, but Petty recently fired drummer Stan Lynch and was down a Heartbreaker. Enter Dave Grohl.
With Nirvana coming to a tragic end just seven months earlier, Petty recruited the Nirvana drummer to bring his headbanging style of drumming for ‘You Don’t Know How It Feels’ and ‘Honey Bee.’
The promo for the band to appear on the show even featured Dave Grohl. Check it out above.
"I even discussed with Dave about joining the band," said Petty. "And he wanted to, but he had his own solo thing developing at the time, the Foo Fighters. And, of course, he would rather have done that."
Thankfully Grohl declined Petty’s offer. But man, imagine if he did? Let us know if you think he made the right choice!
