We were pumped to get another glimpse into the Foo Fighter’s upcoming album with the release of their new track, “The Sky Is a Neighborhood.” Concrete and Gold will be the band’s ninth studio album, and the release date is just around the corner on September 15.
The band is helping us through the final stretch with a new music video! Not only do viewers get to see the Foo Fighters jam out on a roof top under a vast expanse of stars, but also frontman Dave Grohl’s kids! The two girls read song’s lyrics out of a book in-sync with Grohl’s vocals within the house the Foos play on top of. The scenes are eerie and leave no room for sappiness. But we have to admit, 11-year-old Violet and 8-year-old Harper are downright adorable, and the in-sync lyric clips put the “awwww” factor out of this world.
Grohl said of the new track, ““One night I was lying out looking up at stars. Just imagining all of these stars as places that have life on them as well, and I decided that the sky is a neighborhood, that we need to keep our s–t together in order to survive in this universe full of life. But I had no music yet. I just had the title. So every day I would walk around, kind of humming this thing in my head.”
“The Sky Is a Neighborhood” is the newest track we’ve heard off the new album following the release of “Run,” and live performances of “La Dee Da,” “Sunday Rain,” “Dirty Water” and “Arrows.” “The Sky Is a Neighborhood” was recorded in a single afternoon.
Grohl said, “Once we were finished, I thought ‘OK now we have an album,” Grohl recalls. “‘This is it and we’re done’… as we were mixing, I realized that we’d actually done what we set out do: to make this gigantic Foo Fighters record but with Greg Kurstin’s sense of jazz and melody and arrangement, something that we’d never done before.”
