In a recent interview with Billboard, Corey Taylor has revealed that Slipknot will not be playing at Knotfest this year. Instead, the vocalist announced that his other band, Stone Sour, will be playing in lieu of Spliknot’s hiatus.
"Nothing's being written, nothing's being done. Everybody's just doing their thing, which is fine," Taylor said to Billboard on Slipknot's current state.
Since the 2012 inception of Slipknot’s Knotfest, this will be the first year the band absent from the stage. But Taylor doesn’t seem to think that the bands absence will hurt the festival, in fact he thinks it will ultimately help the festival in the long run.
Taylor told Billboard, "I think in a lot of ways your festival has to live past you, or it's not gonna live at all," Taylor explains. "If it has to live and breathe on your presence, then it's not a festival, and it's not for anybody else but you. And for us, it's always been more about the art and the music and everybody... That's why we put so much work into it to begin with, is to really make sure that it was stable and it was strong and the foundation was there."
As of today, information regarding both festivals is minimal. No lineups have been announced and only one date has been confirmed for Knotfest; October 28 in Toluca, Mexico. And speaking of strong foundations, for the second year the festival will be paired Ozzy Osbourne’s OZZFest. Fans can expect more info to be announced July 10.
