By Jordan Lindley The Internet. What a beautiful, terrific, horrifying, intimidating, magical place. It’s the only place where you can find righteous rants, moving poetry, and dancing cats in the same conversation. It’s where millions of people look to learn, react, create, collaborate, and share. It’s how news is heard and memes are plenty.
It’s in serious danger. For those who don’t know, the FCC is about to vote whether to repeal something called Network Neutrality, or Net Neutrality for short. This little two-word phrase is the silent savior that separates the World Wide Web we love from one that could be packaged and directed past reason. Effectively, Net Neutrality is "Network neutrality is the idea that internet service providers (ISPs), including cable companies like Time Warner and wireless providers like Sprint, should treat all internet traffic equally" (Source: Vox). Basically, it prohibits big-name corporations from restricting, blocking, or impeding your internet usage, allowing for an open web as it always has been, and ought to be. If you don't like how high your Comcast bill is, you definitely won't like what the FCC wants to do with Net Neutrality. This vote is happening tomorrow. Getting rid of Net Neutrality will harm the online community as a whole, including Headrush TV, including Facebook and Twitter, including Reddit, Loudwire, Netflix... the list goes on. Services, publications, and communities we use and love are in the crosshairs, and the only way to stop the bullet is with our voices. Scores of voters and citizens have protested before, with SOPA and PIPA in 2012, and we're ready to do it again. It's easy to join the protest, but it will be difficult to win. The deciding individuals for the Net Neutrality vote have a lot of money and a lot of power behind them. What we're asking is for you to join the fight for Net Neutrality by going to www.battleforthenet.com/. Write, call, and make your voice heard. The Internet needs help, and we're asking you to please do your part to help save it. We all want the internet we deserve - so let's make it happen. From all of us at Headrush TV, we thank you. Let's save the internet, one voice at a time.
