After missing a week we're back, and this week we're showcasing the classic 1988 song, "Where Is My Mind?" as made famous by the Pixies.
The song was released on March 21, 1988, appearing as the seventh track on the bands debut album Surfer Rosa. Lead vocalist Black Francis has said that the song was inspired by his experiences on a scuba diving trip in the Caribbean. "This very small fish trying to chase me. I don't know why—I don't know too much about fish behavior."
Although the song is regarded as the bands most popular song, the track was never released as a single. The legacy of "Where Is My Mind" expanded when it appeared at the end of the cult classic film Fight Club (1999).
Alright so besides influence bands that gave rise to punk and grunge such as Nirvana, what was else was going on in 1988?
Well for starters, 1988 was a leap year. That being said, .91 cents could buy you a gallon of gas and a movie ticket would only cost you $3.50. But not everything was cheap, an Amiga Computer with a color monitor would run you about $849, and that's not including tax.
Nike coined their famous slogan "Just do it." and the rest is history. Staying on the topic of history, in 1988 the Soviet Union canceled history exams due to increased government transparency which revealed that the textbooks were filled with bullsh*t. Not fake news, read.
